description
The success of for:tune gained me an interesting project from Gina, a very talented film director, and owner of Experimenta.
'Orient Top Town' is about a luxury villa district called 大東方 Orient Top Town, located in remote area of Shanghai. Far from the down town and inconvenient transportation, the villa failed to sell out and empty for many years. The property developer switched their mind with a new marketing method: turning the villa into artists' home. The developer then invites artists moving into there free of charge, but they also have to agree to keep producing artworks there. As a result Orient Top Town quickly turns into one of the biggest art villages in China, the villa's sale rate improved as a result. Orient Top Town is a documentary film investigating the thought of property developer and artists, and current art development in China. The film had already won 5 international indie film awards, I am so proud of Gina and proud to be involved in this project.
The poster's design concept is simple. Since the film is all about Orient Top Town, Gina and I decided to take a satellite picture of 31 05 29 53 N 121 3 36 69 E, the coordinate of Orient Top Town, and let it as the poster main background. We also liked to have a strong and punchy title design, so that I especially bought a license of Dala Floda, and designed the extra bold modern Song type with vertical setting, as part of Chinese matching.
The final outcome is definitely impressive, the poster had been flown over to five countries along with Gina, which is best gift one designer can get from.
